Recently I went away for my birthday – woohoo, this is the second year around that I have been abroad for my special day. I was so excited to be going there as I had never visited before, everything went smoothly and it was only a 50 minute flight from London!
Everything was perfect while we were in Amsterdam, except the weather. As the trip was in February, I did expect that the weather may be abit dull and rainy – but I was not expecting snow. How magical, there was snow in Amsterdam on my birthday – it usually does snow in London for it but not every year.
Unfortunately as the weather was snowy and rainy (along with some very painfull hail) it meant we couldn’t visit specific sites or just walk around the canals for hours (which is what we would have done). We did however manage to visit the Sex Museum (very weird), Van Gogh Museum, Canals, Vondelpark, Red Light District, Anne Frank House and a coffee shop (naughty).
We stayed in a lovely new hotel just outside of Amsterdam, it was actually a perfect location – only 15 minutes from the airport by train and a 5-10 minute train ride to Amsterdam Centraal (or a 20 minute bus journey). Hotel2Stay is a new hotel which is super modern and clean – we were so lucky to get this place and it was a great base to stay while travelling to and from the centre. I would really recommend staying here if you’re planning a visit to Amsterdam, there’s a few restuarants nearby, a small spar supermarket, you’re also right near great transport links including trams, buses and trains from Sloterdijk station (there’s a Starbuck’s and Smullers hot food in the station too). Here’s some pictures of Amsterdam!! Hopefully I can re-visit in the summer months sometime soon.
